Clay bags in clay pit
Clay, clay pit
Rundgang, Copenhagen 2018
Clay from a clay pit has been pressed into a mold giving the objects the shape of industrially packed clay. The smooth surface on the clay shows the plastic bag material that it was packed in.
The clay pit is located in the sculpture garden at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and the clay pit has existed for as long as the sculpture garden/the academy has existed – this particular clay has therefore been re-used to model and cast sculptures for more that two hundred years. The clay bag objects are casts made of clay taken from the clay pit and then put back into the pit. Since they are not burned they will join the cycle of sculpture production and eventually be used to create new sculptures in the future.
